School Year 2022/23

Molecules - Science - 2022/23

Students built models of molecules using colored marshmallows, candy, and clay to represent atoms, and toothpicks to represent chemical bonds. They created a color code to denote the different elements used. Students were required to use a set number of atoms, and to describe the composition of the molecules they built. 

Congruence challenge - Math - 2022/23

Doing fun activities makes learning interesting. In the congruence challenge, students created and wrote down their own math questions. They then used their papers to make aeroplanes that they flew across the room. Students then had to choose a random plane from the room and answer the question. 

Dissection - Science - 2022/23

Grade 8: Topic: Pig Heart Dissection
Students dissected pig hearts in order to learn about the circulatory system. First, students bisected the hearts. Then, students opened the hearts and identified the four chambers. Students also found the following major blood vessels: vena cava, aorta, pulmonary trunk, and pulmonary veins.

Congruence code breaker - Math - 2022/23

Students worked in small groups to break the congruence codes and worked out who had committed the heinous murder in the staff room. By answering 9 questions correctly, they would collect 9 letters that would reveal the name of the criminal. 

Combined project - English, Math, Science - 2022/23

Students have been working on a project that combines elements of English, Math and Science. Students in Grade 8 are working on a pinball machine that combines the engineering of simple machines, math probability and English presentations. More pictures to follow once the project is complete.

English contest - Spelling bee - 2022/23

For the English contest, teachers held a spelling bee by grade level. Each class held an individual round in the classroom with the top 3 students from each class progressing to the final. The final was held in the conference room and the 9 finalists competed for the top spot. Well done to everyone who took part in the spelling bee and congratulations to our winners.
