Grade 7 Electives
School Year 2023/24
Robotics - Autonomous car - 2023/24
Once students had mastered LED lights and buzzers, they moved on to make their own autonomous car, using the circuits they had learned in class. The girls got to decorate their cars in any way that they liked and they presented the theme of their car, to their classmates.
In this lesson, students presented the autonomous cars that they had been working on in their groups. Throughout this term we have been learning about how to build different circuits and the different parts that make up a circuit. Autonomous cars use a sensor to detect if anything is in front of the car, motors, batteries wires and the Arduino chip to make the car move.
Students designed the outside of the car and then presented their moving car along with their presentation where they covered what they used and any problems they had.
Robotics - Buzzer - 2023/24
Students spent the first couple of weeks of the Robotics elective mastering the use of Arduino. Arduino boards are the microcontroller development platform that is at the heart of projects. When making something students will be building the circuits and interfaces for interaction, and telling the microcontroller how to interface with other components.
Having completed the introduction to robotics, and created a basic flashing light circuit, students moved on to a buzzer project. In small groups, they connected the master board and breadboard with wires in order to sound a buzzer.
School Year 2022/23
Robotics - LED light - 2022/23
After learning the basics of how to use an Arduino, students learned how to use a breadboard and wires to create a circuit to turn on an LED light.
