The Hound Of Baskerville News - English - 2024/25

In English class, students created newspaper articles connected to the mystery story they read, “The Hound of Baskerville” by Sir Conan Doyle.  The students had to choose two events from the story and write about them in the style of a journalist reporting for a newspaper. 

DNA Lab - Science -  2024/25

Students in Grade 9 science have been learning about genetics and DNA. In this lab, the students extracted their own DNA using a combination of a salt mouthwash wash, gently mixed with some dishwashing detergent. Once a small amount of ethyl alcohol was added to the cup, the students were able to see strings of DNA which could then be examined under a microscope.  

Polynomial Bingo - Math - 2024/25

Before diving into the second topic of factoring Polynomials, Mr Joe wanted to assess the students' existing knowledge. For a formative review game, the class played Bingo by combining like terms in polynomials. The girls had fun competing for Bingo and solving the equations faster than the others. The entire class was very engaged with the game and generated some healthy competition between the students. 

The Lady and the Tiger - English -  2024/25

In Grade 9 English class, we read the famous short story, “The Lady and the Tiger.” The ending of this story is ambiguous so the students had to form groups and create skits acting out how they think the story really ended. The students then had to utilise their reading comprehension skills, English speaking skills, public speaking and communication skills, they worked within a group and finally tapped into their critical thinking and creativity.  The result was an assortment of skits showing a wide array of creative endings to the famous story.
