Combined project: English, Math, Science - 2022/23

Students are working on a cross-curriculum project for English, Math and Science. In grade 9, students have been making board games with questions that cover the 3 subjects. They have also been applying engineering skills and looking at the probability of each person winning the game or frequency a number is rolled on a dice.

Introducing ALEKS - Math - 2022/23

To enhance the Grade 9 math experience, we introduced ALEKS, which is an artificially intelligent learning and assessment system. After quickly and accurately determining each student's precise knowledge, ALEKS helps the student work on the topics they are ready to learn. Students can learn at their own pace until they have mastered the content.

Once the basics were explained to the students, they were able to log in and begin their initial knowledge check.

Board game presentations - English - 2022/23

When students finished their cross-curriculum project for English, Math and Science, they gave a presentation of their board games. In their groups, students presented their board games and described how to play the game and the inspiration for their theme. They also talked about the engineering of the game and the probability of a person winning.

Biotic and Abiotic factors - Science - 2022/23

The students learned about biotic and abiotic factors in an ecosystem and then went to see what they could find around the school grounds. This included birds, bugs, butterflies, water, flowers, soil, etc. We then discussed how they were dependant on each other.
