Transferring charge - Science - 2022/23
The Grade 9 students are learning about electrical charge and electrical forces. Some simple classroom experiments with balloons meant students could try out the concept of transferring charge.
Strawberry DNA lab - Science - 2022/23
As part of learning about genetics, students studied DNA, its structure and possible DNA mutations. To get a real-life view of how DNA works, students extracted the DNA from strawberries.
Idioms - English - 2022/23
Students were learning about idioms to do with health. As part of the activity, the students were asked to find a health-related idiom and illustrate it.
Combined project: English, Math, Science - 2022/23
Students are working on a cross-curriculum project for English, Math and Science. In grade 9, students have been making board games with questions that cover the 3 subjects. They have also been applying engineering skills and looking at the probability of each person winning the game or frequency a number is rolled on a dice.
Introducing ALEKS - Math - 2022/23
To enhance the Grade 9 math experience, we introduced ALEKS, which is an artificially intelligent learning and assessment system. After quickly and accurately determining each student's precise knowledge, ALEKS helps the student work on the topics they are ready to learn. Students can learn at their own pace until they have mastered the content.
Once the basics were explained to the students, they were able to log in and begin their initial knowledge check.
Board game presentations - English - 2022/23
When students finished their cross-curriculum project for English, Math and Science, they gave a presentation of their board games. In their groups, students presented their board games and described how to play the game and the inspiration for their theme. They also talked about the engineering of the game and the probability of a person winning.
Biotic and Abiotic factors - Science - 2022/23
The students learned about biotic and abiotic factors in an ecosystem and then went to see what they could find around the school grounds. This included birds, bugs, butterflies, water, flowers, soil, etc. We then discussed how they were dependant on each other.
English contest - Spelling bee - 2022/23
For the English contest, teachers held a spelling bee by grade level. Each class held an individual round in the classroom with the top 3 students from each class progressing to the final. The final was held in the conference room and the 9 finalists competed for the top spot. Well done to everyone who took part in the spelling bee and congratulations to our winners.

Math Contest - The 24 Challenger - 2022/23
The Grade 9 Math Contest was a highly competitive and timed challenge that saw students go head to head in the 24 challenge.
The goal of the game is to use all 4 given numbers and basic arithmetics (+ - × and /) to get to the number 24 as fast as you can. The student that managed to solve the highest number of problems within the given time frame was the winner
