Innovations For The Elderly
Semester 2
2023/24
Innovations for the elderly
For the Semester Two PBL project, the students undertook a PBL project that reflected the school's philosophy of pursuing charitable endeavours. The students were tasked with innovating, designing and creating products that would help the elderly around the home.
-
Grade 7 students were assigned the kitchen and they created some excellent products. From products such as a tea tipper, to assist when pouring water from a heavy kettle to a modified walking frame and a soy yoghurt aimed at maintaining high brain function, the students worked hard to make a safe and functional kitchen environment.
-
Grade 8 students designed items for the living room. These varied from exercise machines to modified wheelchairs, through to back scratchers and a cooling pillow. They aimed at making life comfortable for the elderly but also keeping them moving.
-
Grade 9 students worked hard to design products that would enhance the quality of life of our elderly in the bedroom and bathroom. Some of the awesome innovations included a bed frame to help with sitting up in bed, a carousel closet of drawers to stop unnecessary bending and a device to help with putting on trousers.
This was one of the most successful PBL projects to date because the students will see some of their inventions come to life in the real world as they are built to help some of the older sisters at the convent.
We are so proud of all the hard work that went into making this a truly wonderful PBL project.
