Science: Ping Pong Pick-up
In this Grade 7 Science challenge, students applied the engineering design process to create a device capable of picking up a ping pong ball and returning it across a designated line. Working in teams, students brainstormed ideas, sketched designs, built prototypes, and tested their creations using a limited selection of materials.
Throughout the project, students refined their designs based on trial results, learning the importance of planning, testing, and improvement. The challenge concluded with teams competing to see whose device could successfully retrieve a ping pong ball from the greatest distance. The activity developed creativity, collaboration, problem-solving skills, and an understanding of how engineers design and improve solutions to real-world problems.
Science: Atomic Models
In this Grade 7 Science project, students explored the structure of atoms by designing and constructing three-dimensional atomic models. Using materials such as clay and toothpicks, students represented the key subatomic particles—protons, neutrons, and electrons—and demonstrated how these particles are arranged within an atom.
As part of the activity, students researched their assigned elements and presented their models to the class, explaining the atomic structure and properties of each element. The project combined scientific knowledge with creativity, helping students develop a deeper understanding of atomic theory while strengthening their communication, presentation, and model-building skills.
Maths: Triangles Project
In this Grade 7 Mathematics project, students explored the properties and classifications of triangles by designing and creating interactive learning resources. Working individually or in small groups, students produced a variety of creative projects, including games, foldables, displays, and information boards that demonstrated their understanding of different triangle types and their key characteristics.
The project challenged students to apply their mathematical knowledge in an engaging and practical way while developing creativity, communication, and presentation skills. Through the design process, students reinforced their understanding of acute, obtuse, right, equilateral, isosceles, and scalene triangles, transforming mathematical concepts into fun and interactive learning tools.
